Multimedia Storytelling 2022

Friends are an essential part of anyone’s day. Whether that be at school, at work, or spending time together elsewhere, the chancees are you either have or want a friend by your side. These people who you have a personal relationship with are a defining aspect in your day and even your life.

The Beauty of Friendship

By Kyla Lankton

Planting flowers can be reduced down to three simple steps.  Step one would be picking out flowers and getting all the tools needed to plant them.  The next step is preparing the soil that the flower will be rooted in.  The final step is actually planting the flower.  In a way, the gardener is giving the flowers a new home.  Friendship can be viewed as flowers in the same manner.  “You could relate a friendship to a flower blossoming, starting out as a seed and growing into something beautiful,” Sophomore Emma Kruger says.

While gardener’s pick flowers for what will be best suited for their garden, befriending someone can be viewed in the same manner.  There are numerous types of flowers, just like people, from Morning Glories, Dandy Dandelions, or even Trusty Tulips.  Each flower has its own unique style that benefit each garden.  When asked about flowers connetion to friendship, freshmen Hannah Sides responds, “Yellow roses because they represent friendship flowers that your friendship can blossom into something beautiful.”  Becoming friends with someone is like picking a flower to plant that will bloom into something breathtaking.  Maybe a friendship will grow into a pink, red, or yellow rose, or maybe the friendship will grow into a daisy.  Each friendship is different, like each flower is.

The second step of planting flowers is preparing the soil for the flowers to take root.  Preparing to have a friend can sometimes become a difficult task because some people struggle with opening up.  “Every friendship grows from roots that they have planted,” Sophomore Ava Beyer states.  A rose bush can regrow year after year if the roots are strong, just like friends can stay for years.  Roots are important for growing and developing in flowers and humans.  Friends can have strong roots that withstand through the good and bad times.

The final step of planting flowers is to plant the flowers themselves.  As stated, gardener’s give flowers a new home.  Friendship means something different to everyone, but sometimes roots run so deep that friends rely on each other to become a home of sorts: someone to turn to and someone that will take care of them when there’s too much sorrow and not enough light.  Planting flowers can mean new beginnings and taking care of them.  Friends take care of each other; they take responsibilities that the other can’t carry alone.

“Friendship is like flowers because even as flowers die, they still leave impacts on those whose interact with them,” Senior Kyanna Lankton comments.  Friendships die out and come to an end, but each friend someone gains or losses, there is a valuable lesson.  For example, pricking a finger on a thorn of a bush.  The lesson to learn is to be careful when dealing with plants that have thorns on them.  Friends leave impacts and sometimes dealing with things within the friendship will hurt just like a thorn.  Friends will learn from another even if it ends.

Thus, friendship is like flowers because friends will fit perfect for another like a flower in a garden. Opening up to someone is like preparing to plant a flower for the roots to grow.  Friends can become a ‘home’ to someone like a flower’s new home in a garden.  Plus, even if friendships die, they still left an impact.  Friendship can grow and become something extraordinary if planted right.

Friendship can mean a lot of different things to different people, so we asked two students enrolled at BHS to give their thoughts on what friendship means to them and what makes a friendship.

Kansas may be an area with a lot of small towns, but there are lots of places to go to have fun with friends!

In a world full of many different people and personalities, those that are close to you will impact your entire life. Enjoy your time with those special people: your friends.
