Graduating from Hastings Senior High School in 1984 (yikes!), I ventured many miles to attend college (not really). I graduated from Hastings College in 1988.
My Bachelor of Arts degree from Hastings College is in Secondary English Education with a language arts field endorsement. In 2001, I received my Master of Arts in English degree from Wichita State University.
With 28 years of teaching behind me, I have attended countless hours of professional development, conferences, and workshops. I am a member of Kansas Association of Teachers of English and have been a member of the National Association of Teachers of English. Besides being certified as a teacher of English, I recently received certification to teach project management.
After teaching for 16 years for USD #254 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, my family moved for me to teach for USD #244 in Burlington in 2004. I currently teach Junior English, Honors Junior English, Honors Senior English (concurrent with Allen Community College for Composition I, Introduction to Literature, and Composition II), and junior project managment.
Bill Parker became a lucky man in 1994 when he was betrothed to the one and only Devra Diane Black Parker. Hmm, why did I already have the Parker last name? You will have to wait for Junior English to find out!
Our children who are equally blessed to have such fine parents are Kate Brown and her husband, Robby Brown; Eli Parker, and Noah Parker. Our favorite child, however, is our grandchild, Parker Brwon, who loves her grandmother more than anyone on the planet.
I live to teach, and I teach to live. In fact, I cannot imagine myself in any other profession because teenagers are the coolest people in the universe. When I am not at school, you might find me bargain shopping, reading for pleasure, or spending time with my family!
