Art
This is my 2nd year at Burlington HS/MS and I am very excited to be here. I previously taught Art in Topeka for 4 years at Topeka West High School.
I teach two classes at the Middle School and four at the High School; one Advanced Art class and three Art classes, which are introductory classes in Art.
I am the Junior Class Sponsor and the Art Club Sponsor.
Before coming to Burlington, I taught at Topeka West High School for four years. I was apart of an Art Department of six Art Teachers. I taught Advanced Placement Studio Art, Studio Art, Jewelry/Metalsmithing, Drawing 1 & 2, Painting 1 & 2, and Design. I also tutored after school and was the Art Club and the Freshman Class Sponsor.
I student taught at Topeka West High School and Valley Falls where I taught grades K-12.
During college, I taught Art Camps through the Mulvane Art Museum at Washburn University.
I am not married, but my long-term boyfriend John Ashley is a Supervising Nuclear Engineer at Wolf Creek. I have one child, Helena, a 6 year old daughter who is very excited to be going to 1st Grade this year at Burlington Elementary. She is addicted to reading the “Warrior Cat” series books, loves to draw or paint, and recently played t-ball this summer. Helena is bi-lingual in Chinese which is helpful with our Pen-Pal program if I am in need of an interpreter.
I also have a very energetic dog named Maxadoodle who is an Australian Shepard/Poodle or an Aussiedoodle. He is a very cuddly dog who I am convinced is a transformer who changes completely in one haircut.
In my free time, I love spending time with Helena and my family. I am frequently found in my basement fusing glass, painting watercolors or acrylics, or drawing. I enjoy taking trips around the country riding on the Harley with my boyfriend. I also enjoy teaching Art camps, for all ages, through the Burlington Recreation Center, Coffey County Public Library, and at the Old 75 Art Gallery. I am a Board Member for the Coffey County Council for the Arts and love collaborating with others who love Fine Arts about bringing special events and activities to our community.
I think that it is really important to show students that I am a practicing Artist. So I wanted to share a watercolor painting that I recently painted. The top picture is my “in progress” piece and the one on the bottom was my finished watercolor painting. Enjoy!
